Description

Khaki Hybrid Utility Kilt With Thomson Camel Tartan Pleats

Warm khaki cotton on the outside, a soft camel tartan within. It’s one of the most understated, easy-to-wear hybrid kilts in our range.

About the Thomson Camel Tartan

Thomson Camel is a fashion tartan rather than an old clan sett. It’s believed to date from the 1970s and is often linked to the American tartan expert J.C. Thompson, though some sources credit a designer named Laird Portch. Its creamy camel ground, crossed by black and white checks and fine red lines, gives it a smart, classic feel. The Thomson name itself belongs to a Border clan, historically strongest in the lands between the Western Marches and Edinburgh.

Khaki and Camel, Tone on Tone

Most hybrid kilts rely on strong contrast. This one takes a softer route. The khaki apron and outer pleats sit close to the camel ground of the tartan, so the two fabrics blend into a warm, tone-on-tone look. From the front, you’ll see a narrow strip of tartan down each side of the apron. When you walk, the pleats open and the black and white checks come through, adding definition without shouting.

Leather Tabs and Brass Hardware

Black leather tabs sit on both sides of the waist, each fixed with antique brass studs and finished with an eyelet. They give a secure, adjustable fit and pick up the black lines in the tartan. Four antique brass D-rings hang from the front belt loops, two on each side, ready for keys or a small pouch.

Cargo Pockets on Both Hips

Each hip carries a khaki flap cargo pocket closed with two antique brass snaps. There’s plenty of room for a phone, wallet, and keys, and the pockets match the apron so the front stays clean.

Where to Wear It

The neutral palette makes this kilt one of the easiest to style. Wear it to casual weddings, Highland games, autumn festivals, and everyday outings. A white, cream, or light blue shirt keeps it fresh, while brown boots or brogues suit the warm tones. Cream kilt hose finish it neatly.

It belongs to our hybrid kilts collection. If you’d like camel tartan all the way around, see the Thompson Camel Tartan Kilt. For khaki with a bold red tartan instead, the Wallace Tartan Hybrid Kilt brings much stronger contrast.
