Description
Wallace Tartan Hybrid Kilt in Khaki With Red Wallace Pleats
A clean khaki utility kilt on the outside, with the scarlet, black, and yellow of the Wallace tartan set into every pleat. It carries one of Scotland’s most famous names in a modern, everyday form.
The Name Behind the Tartan
Few names in Scottish history carry more weight than Wallace. Sir William Wallace led the fight for Scottish independence in the late 13th century and, alongside Andrew Moray, defeated an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. The Red Wallace tartan itself came much later. Like most clan tartans, it dates from the 19th-century tartan revival and appeared in the Vestiarium Scoticum in 1842. Today it’s one of the most widely recognized tartans in the world.
Scarlet, Black, and Yellow in the Pleats
Red Wallace is a bright scarlet ground crossed by bold black bands and a fine yellow line. In this hybrid kilt, the tartan sits inside the pleats. From the front, you see a calm khaki apron with a strip of red down each side. When you walk, the pleats open and the full tartan comes forward, giving a strong flash of red against the sandy khaki.
Why Khaki Works With Red Wallace
Bright red tartan can feel loud on its own. Khaki softens it. The neutral base keeps the kilt easy to wear day-to-day, while the Wallace tartan adds just enough heritage and energy. It’s a pairing that looks equally right at a Highland Games, a pub, or a weekend barbecue.
Straps, D-Rings, and Pockets
Black leather straps on both sides of the waist give a secure, adjustable fit. Four D-rings hang from the front belt loops, two on each side, ready for keys, a chain, or a small pouch, and the wide belt loops take a sturdy belt. Each hip carries a khaki flap cargo pocket closed with black snaps, with room for a phone, wallet, and keys.
Where to Wear It
Highland games, Clan Wallace gatherings, Scottish festivals, Burns Night, St Andrew’s Day, and everyday wear all suit this kilt. A white or black shirt keeps the look sharp, and red or black kilt hose tie back to the tartan. Brown or black boots both work with khaki.
It’s part of our hybrid kilts collection. If you’d like the tartan all the way around, see our traditional Wallace Tartan Kilt. For the same tartan on a darker, rugged base, the Black Denim Wallace Scottish Hybrid Kilt pairs it with black denim.
