The Leather

The whole kilt is cut from genuine black cowhide with a smooth finish and a natural, lived-in texture. It’s heavier and more protective-feeling than cotton, and it breaks in with wear, softening at the waist and pleats while keeping its strong shape.

Trimmed Like Turnout Gear

Look at any firefighter’s coat, and you’ll see the same pattern: a silver reflective stripe running down the center of a bright fluorescent band. Crews call it triple trim. The fluorescent edges stand out in daylight and dusk, while the silver center lights up in headlights after dark. Firefighting clothing standards first appeared in 1975, and they still call for a band of trim close to the hem of the coat. This kilt follows that same layout, with triple trim framing both edges of the apron, crossing beneath it, and wrapping all the way around the back hem.

The Details

Two black leather straps with silver swivel-hook clasps fasten at the side, backed by silver snaps on the waistband. The belt loops carry orange piping, and silver D-rings hang at the back and sides for keys or a small pouch. On each hip sits a leather cargo pocket with a trimmed flap, a snap closure, and pleated orange and silver sides that expand when you need extra room.

Caring for Your Leather Kilt

Wipe the leather with a soft, damp cloth. Never machine wash or tumble dry it.
Clean the trim gently with mild soap and water, avoiding solvents that can dull the silver stripe.
Condition the leather every few months, keeping conditioner off the trim.
Let it air dry slowly if it gets wet, away from heaters and open flame.
